Up-to-date Information on Swine flu

Karygiannis Launches Multi-lingual Website Portal

TORONTO - The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, has set up a web portal on his website in order to provide his constituents and other visitors to his website with important, up-to-date information on swine influenza (swine flu).

“Swine flu is affecting Canadians and people around the world.” said Mr. Karygiannis.  “I believe it important for all of us to be aware of the situation as it unfolds.  I have established this web portal to provide important information on steps to take to avoid contracting the swine flu and what to do if you feel ill.”

The website portal also contains facts about the symptoms of swine flu and provides internet links to the Public Health Agency of Canada; the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care; The Scarborough General Hospital; Rouge Valley Health System; and, Swine Flu+ Toronto where people can also access up-to-date information.

“During the outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2003, I communicated important health information on my website and by other means.  Now, as then, I believe it is very important for all of us to be fully informed with respect to health emergencies.” Mr. Karygiannis commented.

As Scarborough-Agincourt is one of the most ethnically diverse ridings in Canada, information on the web portal has been translated into several languages including: Arabic; Chinese; Farsi; Greek; Hindi; Italian; Korean; Kurdish; Punjabi; Tamil; and, Urdu – with more languages being added daily.

“I believe it is the responsibility of elected officials to communicate with their constituents in their first language, so they have knowledge about important issues of concern.”  stated Mr. Karygiannis.

The web portal can be accessed by visiting: http://karygiannismp.com/spip/article.php3?id_article=1075.

For people wanting this information who do not have access to a computer, they can call Mr. Karygiannis’ office at (416) 321-5454.
